This year the NEw Egham Singers will be travelling to York - the destination we had pencilled in for summer 2020 before the world went mad. Liz Gibson and Julia Wallis (Sopranos) have kindly taken over the management of the tour, and have reconnected with the choir we were going to be singing with. We have a venue booked for the evening concert, now all we need is to know how many people want to come.
For newer members, or those who haven't toured with us before, our summer tour is a wonderful weekend away full of singing, sightseeing, food and friends. There is no pre-requisite, you don't have to have been in the choir for any length of time, you just need to want to join in and have a lovely weekend away! A couple of relatively new members who joined us last year said they really loved getting to know other singers better - particularly those in other voice sections - and the chance to explore new places with like minded friends.
How does it work?
The tour will follow the usual format: leave Egham on the morning of Friday 11th July, stop on the way, arrive in York early afternoon for some sightseeing, then a choir dinner on Friday night. We will be staying in a hotel in the centre of York so this should be ideal. On Saturday you will be free to sightsee in York, then we will be performing a concert in the evening in conjunction with a local choir. We will leave York after breakfast on Sunday, hopefully stopping somewhere on the way home for lunch/more singing (TBC) and arrive back in Egham early Sunday evening.
Tour is open to all full members of the choir, and we do ask that you are a full member for the summer term, otherwise you won't know the music for the concert. There will be both twin and single rooms available, although there will be a supplement for single rooms. If you canshare, we always recommend it. If you are happy to share but don't know people well enough, please come and talk to a committee member and we'll try and pair you up with someone before the trip.
We're happy to say that prices will be significantly lower than last year (in the region of £300-350), and will include coach travel, hotel accommodation, breakfast Saturday/Sunday, and a choir dinner on Friday night. You will need to pay for any other meals (lunches, dinner Saturday night), excursions etc. We are always mindful of keeping costs down, and the more people that come along the cheaper it will be for everyone.
