NES Newsletter – 06 September, 2014
Welcome back, everyone! I hope you all had an enjoyable and restful summer. Our first rehearsal of term is this Monday, 8th September, from 7:30 to 9:30 at The Literary Institute on Egham High Street. We have great new music, and I am sure we all are looking forward to seeing our choir friends. Between picking up new music, dropping off old, and just catching up with friends, it might be a good idea to show up a bit early.
In this week’s Newsletter:
Monday Night Social
Our first rehearsal of the term coincides with the first Monday of the month. This usually means Social Night at the Alma Mater. However, a reliable source (namely David Young) has informed us that the Alma Mater seems to have very recently shut down, soon to open as a Mexican restaurant! This has left the committee a little bit flat footed, and unable to come up with an alternative for this week. If anyone has any ideas for a new venue, please have a word with a committee member.
Literary Institute Dates
As noted above, please remember that we will be rehearsing in the Literary Institute on the 8th and 15thof September.
Addams Family The Musical
We are proposing a social evening to see Addams Family The Musical at Licence Victualler’s School in Ascoton Saturday, 1st November. Guy is the musical director, and based on last year’s production of Dr. Doolittle, it promises to be a fantastic performance. We have been offered reduced price tickets: £11 (regular £16), with allocated seats and a programme included. Bookings need to be made asap, since we need to be paid up by the 18th September. A flyer is attached to this newsletter. If you would like to come along, please sign up at Monday’s rehearsal, or have a chat with Chloe for more information.
We are thinking of offering a performance workshop for singers interested in performing solos or simply those who wish to improve their confidence and singing ability. Please take the time to click the following link and fill out the survey, even if you would not be interested, so that we can gauge response levels. Thanks!

Music update from Sam Mossop
Hi everyone, really looking forward to the new term and the new pieces we are going to sing. Here are a few notes for the first choir practice:
Please bring all your old music including any you may have missed from previous terms as we are missing a lot of copies, and this costs the choir a lot of money!
Please put all your old music in the red boxes as you come in.
There will be at least 4 people handing out new music. Please go to the one with the smallest queue.
If you can get there early please, do as I will be there from 7 pm, and this will speed up the process.
Many thanks for your help and cooperation.
NES has a new website: same address but new content and style.
Also note that the Members’ area has more useful items. You can visit the request list and request new song (see below), view the choir’s calendar, and listen to recordings of each rehearsal if you miss a week.
The new request list is now on the website in the Members’ Area and Lisa Bunce (Soprano) is running it. I have also attached it to this email. Now is the time to add your requests as I shall be examining this list at the end of October to prepare the repertoire for 2015. There are two ways to put items on the list or vote for an existing item. First, you can fill in the request list in the break during rehearsals as Lisa will bring it each week up until the end of October. Second, you can go into the Members’ Area and fill out the form on the request page.
All rehearsal tracks for the Michaelmas term are now on the website in the Members’ Area. Sam Mossop will be producing CDs for those who would prefer them.
As part of the new website, NES now has a blog. You can view it on our website under the ‘More’ button along the top, or visit http://www.neweghamsingers.org/blog
Guy will be posting interesting articles about choirs and singing, but most importantly, he will post each week what we are working on in rehearsal.
NES is always on the lookout for new charities to support. We prefer our charities to be local to our community. This includes the community that you as a member live in – not just Egham and Staines. And they must be non-denominational and non-political. If you have a charity that you would like put forward for consideration, please contact our chairman, David Evans, either at rehearsal or email@example.com
To submit an item to the NES weekly newsletter, please firstname.lastname@example.org with your article no later thanWednesday evening. Please include a contact e-mail address which can be included in your posting. Only items directly related to NES can be published. Other notices can be posted on our notice board which is displayed every week at rehearsal.
