A Message from Enid re: Gift Aid

It is almost the end of the current financial year and I will be preparing the Gift Aid submission to HMRC on behalf of NES.

Please read the two attachments and let me have any information or forms as soon as possible. If you participated last year and there are no changes to your circumstances, then you need take no action unless you have personal reasons for wishing to withdraw your support for this beneficial scheme.

Scratch Messiah

The date has now been confirmed; 29thNovember, 2015, and the booking form has been sent off. Very many thanks to everybody for their prompt payments. We will let you know when we receive confirmation of the tickets.

--Francesca Shelley and Theresa Butcher

Returning Music

The concert is fast approaching, which means the handing in of music is also on its way.  Sam asks that you hand all of your music in except the Carol Book and the Song Book at the following times:

1. If you are not singing in the concert on the last Choir practice (23 March), please put your music in the red box on your way out.

2. If you are singing in the concert, please take the music out of your folders before you leave the stage at the end of the concert and put it in one of the red boxes at each side of the stage.

If you change your mind about being in the concert after you have handed in your music, Sam will have extra music sets at the concert.

2015 Tour

We are continuing to take bookings for our 2015 tour to Worcester.  The details and booking form are attached to this newsletter.  Please note that deposits of £25 are now being taken to guarantee your place on this popular trip.  Also, we have identified our charity for the tour.  They are called Worcester Snoezelen.  They are specialists in sensory happiness, and use therapies, including music, to help people who are disabled.  They have suggested that we do something in collaboration with some of their music makers, which would be a real treat!

Magna Carta Day

On Sunday 14 June NES will be taking part in the Great Charter Festival being organised at Royal Holloway, University of London to celebrate Magna Carta.  The event is planned to run from 10 am to 10 pmwith events taking place in the main quadrangles and elsewhere on campus. The theme of the festival is an exploration of liberty; a celebration but also an opportunity to ask questions. What do we mean by liberty? How can it be secured and protected? Is liberty something we already enjoy or is it something that we are still striving for?  It will also consider themes of protest and resistance.  NES are going to be performing on a stage in the South Quad between 1 & 2 pm and we have devised a programme from current and previous repertoires that fits in with these themes and has been favourably received by the artistic director of the festival.  We will have sign-up sheets available at rehearsal nearer the time for members to indicate whether they want to take part.  Restrictions on space may mean that we will not be able to accommodate a full choir so if you want to ensure a place get your name on the sheets as soon as they appear.

Summer Concert

The venue for our summer concert on Saturday 11 July will be St John’s Beaumont School as last year.  It will follow a similar format with a formal concert in their sports hall followed by our picnic on their sports field.  After we have eaten we will reconvene on the field to finish the day with more singing.  Usually a very enjoyable event made even better if the weather is kind to us!

Charity Nominations

NES is always on the lookout for new charities to support.  We prefer our charities to be local to our community.  This includes the community that you as a member live in – not just Egham and Staines.   And they must be non-denominational and non-political.  If you have a charity that you would like put forward for consideration, please contact our chairman, David Evans, either at rehearsal or at chairman@neweghamsingers.org
