NES Newsletter – 07 February, 2015
In this week’s Newsletter:
It is now time to pay the second half of your subs. The amount is £65.00. If you paid in full (£130.00) in September you don’t have to worry. If you are not too sure as to what you paid, ask me and I can let you know. The second half of your subs are due by Monday, 16th February, 2015.
Subs can be paid by Cheque (made payable to NES), cash or can be paid direct into our bank account: Sort Code 20 81 11 account 33599841 with a reference of your surname and SUBS. If paying into the bank account, please can you email me or send me a text on when you have paid.
Scratch Messiah 2015
As last year we are looking to organise tickets for this year’s Messiah from Scratch at the Royal Albert Hall. However, before committing ourselves, we would like to have an idea of how many people will be involved either to sing or as part of the audience.
To this end we will be asking those wishing to participate to add their names to a list which will be on display beside the registers for the next couple of weeks.
As yet The Really Big Chorus Company have still to confirm the date but it is expected to be Sunday, 29th November. Last year tickets for the stalls/arena cost £35, which was a slight increase on the previous year. If we are to go ahead with the booking we will be asking for an initial deposit of £35 before the middle of March.
If you have not yet taken part in this it’s a great experience and, with plenty of help and support from fellow singers, not as daunting as you might think! If you would like to find out more about it, please do not hesitate to speak to us.
Francesca Shelley and Theresa Butcher
Those of you that have been with NES for some time hopefully will remember the song “Take These Wings." Somehow or other, 100 or so copies are missing. Can anyone remember any other choir or any other person or organisation borrowing them?
If you were a "Box Holder," have you got them tucked away somewhere? For that number to be missing it has to be a loan, so any clue I can get to where they may be will be very helpful.
Many Thanks, Sam
West Side Story
Guy will once again be musical director for Ocean Youth Theatre Company in this spring’s production West Side Story. We have been offered reduced price tickets at £11 which includes a programme. Anyone who came to Dr Dolittle and or Addams Family will remember how professional the productions are. There will be four performances: Friday 10th April (7:30pm), Saturday 11th(2pm & 7:30pm) and Sunday 12th (4pm). To book your ticket(s) either sign up at rehearsal or on the website: http://www.neweghamsingers.org/social-west-side-story.html
Come and Sing
Voices Anon, one of the other choirs which Guy directs, is hosting a Come and Sing day in aid of Alexander Devine Hospice. This is, incidentally, the same charity we are supporting for our Spring concert. It’s on Saturday 14th March and will feature some lovely music by well-known English composers, including Rutter, Parry, Elgar and Handel. Tickets are just £10 and there will be a performance for friends in the evening. Again, to book your place please click the link below or sign up at rehearsal:http://www.neweghamsingers.org/social-come-and-sing-event.html
We will be continuing our popular raffles, which raise much appreciated funds for our Social expenses. Upcoming dates this term are:
NES is always on the lookout for new charities to support. We prefer our charities to be local to our community. This includes the community that you as a member live in – not just Egham and Staines. And they must be non-denominational and non-political. If you have a charity that you would like put forward for consideration, please contact our chairman, David Evans, either at rehearsal
To submit an item to the NES weekly newsletter, please e-mail with your article no later than Wednesday evening. Please include a contact e-mail address which can be included in your posting. If you would like your item repeated, please let the secretary know on a weekly basis. Only items directly related to EDCS can be published. Other notices can be posted on our notice board which is displayed every week at rehearsal.
